Adobe ships 80+ tools into Claude and Gemini
Adobe put Photoshop, Firefly and Acrobat inside Gemini and Claude on September 24. The app stopped being the destination. Here's what that means for your stack.
Adobe just decided its software does not need you to open it. On September 24, Adobe announced that Photoshop, Lightroom, Express and Firefly tools are rolling out inside Google Gemini, and that Acrobat has joined its Claude plugin — which now carries more than 80 tools. The creative suite is becoming a set of function calls in someone else's chat window.
What actually happened
Two moves in one announcement. Adobe in Gemini puts Photoshop, Lightroom, Express and Firefly tools into Gemini conversationally, rolling out globally across Gemini plans. Adobe for Claude adds Acrobat for the first time, bringing the plugin to 80-plus tools spanning Acrobat, Express, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, InDesign and Adobe Stock, across Claude and Claude Code on desktop, mobile and web.
The Acrobat side is the more interesting half. Per 9to5Mac's coverage, it covers deleting, combining and splitting pages, redacting sensitive information, and converting or exporting PDFs — with new interactive editing so you can adjust the result in place rather than re-prompting for it.
Entitlements are worth noting: guest access works without an Adobe account, and signing in raises usage limits, unlocks more tools, and keeps session continuity. Existing Adobe connectors update themselves.
Why software distribution matters for your business
The destination app is losing. Adobe has the strongest UI moat in creative software and it just shipped its tools into two assistants it does not own. Salesforce made the same call at Dreamforce with a headless interface layer. When two vendors that large agree the interface is not the product, that is a direction, not a coincidence.
Your "we have a great app" plan is now a distribution plan. If you sell software to businesses, the question has moved from "will they log in" to "can an agent call this." A clean, documented tool surface — MCP server, plugin, whatever the wrapper — is starting to matter more than the dashboard you spent two quarters designing. Adobe is not adding Gemini support out of generosity; it is buying reach in the window customers already have open.
Check what the plugin can reach before your team turns it on. Redaction and PDF export inside a chat assistant means contracts, invoices and signed documents pass through that path. Guest access is convenient and also means an employee can start using it with no admin in the loop. Decide now whether that is allowed, and write it down, because "we never discussed it" is not a policy.
This does not cancel your license audit. Adobe just made its tools reachable from more places, which historically raises seat usage rather than lowering it. Watch whether the free guest tier actually displaces paid seats on your team or quietly expands the number of people touching Adobe workflows.
The portable lesson for anyone building software right now: design the tool layer first, and treat the UI as one client of it.
