ChatGPT Space: OpenAI's shared workspace wants your team docs
ChatGPT Space adds shared Pages that teammates, ChatGPT and Dots agents edit together. Decide where your SOPs and docs live before your team picks for you.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Space at DevDay, a shared workspace where your team, ChatGPT and OpenAI's new Dots agents work on the same documents. The core object is a Page: an editable doc you can spin out of a chat and hand to a teammate or an agent. This is OpenAI moving from "chat window" to "where your company's documents live." That is a bigger decision than it looks.
What actually happened
Per Android Authority and Digital Trends:
- Pages hold text, images, charts, tables, files and interactive tools. You can turn an existing conversation into a Page, edit it by hand, ask ChatGPT to rewrite sections, or invite teammates to edit in real time.
- Agents in the doc: you can tag ChatGPT, Codex or a Dot in a comment to request edits, research or follow-up work. Dots are OpenAI's always-on agents, which we covered here.
- Connected sources: Space works with connected services such as Google Drive and Slack.
- Plans: rolling out to Pro, Business and Enterprise on web and desktop. On mobile you can find, read and share Pages, but not create or edit them.
- Coming later: collaborative slides and sheets. The automatic "keep updated" feature for Pages is not in the first release.
Projects stay as they are, for chats, files and instructions. Space sits next to them.
Why a shared AI workspace matters for your business
Your SOPs will end up somewhere. If a manager writes the opening checklist in a ChatGPT Page, that Page is now the source of truth. It lives in a vendor workspace tied to a paid seat. Decide on purpose: either Space is your doc system, or Pages get exported to the system you already own.
An agent that can edit the doc can break the doc. Tagging a Dot to "update the pricing table" is fast. It is also an unreviewed write to a document people act on. Keep a human approval step on anything customers or staff follow, and check that you can see version history before you rely on it.
Watch the seat math. The rollout lists Pro, Business and Enterprise. Free and Plus are not on it. If half your team is on Plus, the shared workspace splits into people who can edit and people who cannot.
Mobile is read-only for now. If your crew works from phones, they cannot create or change Pages yet. Do not move a field checklist there.
Key takeaways
- ChatGPT Space adds shared, editable Pages for teams and agents
- ChatGPT, Codex and Dots can be tagged to edit or research inside a Page
- Pro, Business and Enterprise only; web and desktop for editing
- Pick one home for SOPs and docs before Pages become it by default
- Require human review on agent edits to docs people act on
