Claude Dashboards beta: live BI from a prompt, check the query

Anthropic just put a BI tool inside a chat window. Claude Dashboards, in beta on paid plans since October 8, connects to your warehouse or CRM and builds a live dashboard from a text prompt. In the same release, Claude Docs, Slides, and Design left beta and became free on every plan. For a small business that has been paying for a dashboard seat it barely opens, this is worth an afternoon. It is also worth a rule: no number goes in front of a decision until someone reads the query behind it.

What actually happened

Per Anthropic's announcement, Claude Dashboards connects to Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, Snowflake, and Salesforce. You can send the output on to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, PostHog, Sigma, and others. Looker, Tableau, and monday.com are listed as coming soon. The Decoder reports that every number shows its underlying query.

The rest of the release:

• Claude Motion (beta, Team and Enterprise only) makes animated explainer videos from text, diagrams, and images. They are editable as code and export to MP4.
• Docs, Slides, and Design are out of beta and available on all plans, Free included. Anthropic says people have made more than 45 million docs, decks, and designs with them.
• The standalone Claude Design site stays up until December 14. After that, its chats and comments go away and public links to standalone projects stop working.
• On Enterprise, Dashboards and Motion are off by default. Docs, Slides, and Design switch on by default October 15 unless an admin enables them first.

Why Claude Dashboards matters for your business

The cost of a dashboard just fell to a prompt. Most small teams do not lack data. They lack someone with the time to wire Snowflake or Salesforce into a chart and keep it current. If you are already on a paid Claude plan, that barrier is gone for the beta.

A dashboard you did not build is a dashboard you have not audited. A language model writes the SQL here. It can join the wrong table, count refunds as revenue, or pick the wrong date column for "last month." The visible query is the control. Use it. Pick your five numbers that drive decisions, compare each against a report you already trust, and only then share the link.

Scope the connection, not the prompt. Connect a read-only warehouse role with access to the tables the dashboard needs, not an admin key. Anyone who can prompt the dashboard can query what that role can see.

Put December 14 on your calendar. If your team used the standalone Claude Design site, move anything you need before December 14. Shared links to those projects break on that date.
