Claude Design standalone closes Dec 14: export your projects

Standalone Claude Design shuts down December 14, 2026. Design systems migrate, but chats, comments, and public links do not. Export projects now.

Standalone Claude Design shuts down on December 14, 2026. Your design systems can move. Your chats, comments, and public links cannot. Anthropic's migration guide says claude.ai/design will redirect into Claude after that date. If your team built brand work there, you have eight weeks to decide what you keep.

What actually happened

Per Anthropic's help center article on migrating from standalone Claude Design:

  • The date. The standalone site works until December 14, 2026. After that, claude.ai/design goes to Claude.
  • Design systems migrate. One person runs one migration from the Artifacts page, and it moves every design system in the organization. Owners and sharing lists carry over.
  • Exceptions. Empty design systems and systems built from a built-in starter theme do not migrate, even if you edited them.
  • What is lost. Chats with Claude and comments on projects and design systems stay in the standalone version and are deleted after it closes. Public project links stop working.
  • Projects. They keep working in standalone until the shutdown. Anthropic says a path to move them into Claude is "coming soon." Today you can export each project as a .zip archive or standalone HTML, one at a time. There is no bulk export.
  • Admin settings. On Team and Enterprise plans, Artifacts must be on in organization settings or nobody can migrate. Zero-data-retention organizations cannot turn on artifacts, so they must download projects before the close.

Why it matters for your business

This is a normal product consolidation. It is also a reminder that the conversation is often where the real decisions live: why the logo changed, which color the client rejected, what the agent was told. That record is the part that does not migrate.

What we would do this week:

  • Run the migration early. Then read the "Couldn't be migrated" list. Fixing oversized files or bad file types takes time.
  • Export every project you care about. One at a time, as a project archive. Put the files in your own repo or drive.
  • Copy out the decisions. If a chat holds the reasoning behind a design, paste it into a doc you own.
  • Find your public links. Any link you sent a client will break on December 14. Replace it before they find out.

Key takeaways

  • Standalone Claude Design closes December 14, 2026 and redirects into Claude
  • Design systems migrate in one run; empty and starter-theme systems do not
  • Chats, comments, and public project links are not carried over
  • Projects export one at a time as a .zip or HTML; no bulk export yet
  • ZDR organizations cannot migrate and must download projects first

Your design work should outlive any one tool. We build design systems and front ends as code in repos you own, so a vendor shutdown is a config change, not a rebuild. See what we build, or ask us to help move your design assets.
