Composio cuts tool calls 75%: lock your plan before Aug 15

If you run agents on Composio, you have until tomorrow to keep the plan you're on. Composio's new pricing takes effect August 15, and it does two things at once: it cuts the included tool-call allowance on the paid entry tier by 75%, and it raises the overage rate by roughly 13x. Everyone who bought before the switch keeps their current plan and limits through December 31, 2026.

What actually happened

Composio's current pricing page still shows the old shape: Free at 20,000 tool calls a month, "Ridiculously Cheap" at $29 for 200,000, "Serious Business" at $229 for 2,000,000, with overage at $0.299 and $0.249 per 1,000 calls. It also carries the notice that pricing changes on August 15.

The updated pricing page shows what replaces it:

• Free — $0: 20K tool calls, 20K trigger events, 1M LLM tokens, $2 premium-tool credit, 10 GB-hr sandbox, 1 GB storage, 3 team members
• Pro — $29: 50K tool calls, 50K trigger events, 3M LLM tokens, $5 premium-tool credit, 50 GB-hr sandbox, 10 GB storage
• Business — $599: 50K tool calls, 50K trigger events, custom tokens, premium credit, sandbox and storage
• Overage: $4 per 1,000 tool calls ($3 via Sessions), $1 per 1,000 trigger events, $3.75 per million LLM tokens, $0.50 per GB-hr sandbox, $0.05 per GB storage

Read the Business row twice. At $599 it includes the same 50K tool calls as the $29 Pro tier — the 20x price buys custom limits on the other dimensions and dedicated support, not more calls. And the meter is no longer one number. Trigger events, LLM tokens, premium tools, sandbox compute, and filesystem storage are now billed separately, so a workload that used to resolve to a single tool-call count now resolves to five.

Run the arithmetic on a 2,000,000-call month, using the published rates. Old: $229 flat. New: Business at $599 covers 50K, and the remaining 1.95M bills at $4 per 1,000 — about $7,800, for roughly $8,400 all in. At the $3 Sessions rate it's about $6,450. That's our math off their table, not a quote from Composio, but the direction isn't ambiguous.

Why agent infrastructure pricing matters for your business

The grandfather clause is the actual news. Existing customers, and anyone who buys before the effective date, hold current plans and limits until December 31, 2026. That's four and a half months of runway at the old rate — enough time to instrument, measure, and decide, instead of finding out from an invoice. If you have any real volume on Composio, that decision is worth making today rather than in January.

Count tool calls per business event. 50,000 sounds like a lot until you divide. An agent that checks a calendar, reads a CRM record, sends an email, and writes back is four calls per run. That's 12,500 runs a month before overage starts, and at $4 per 1,000 the next 12,500 runs cost $200. We keep saying this about step billing and it keeps being true: the unit is the thing to model, not the monthly total.

Metered dimensions are architecture pressure. When sandbox compute and filesystem storage carry their own rates, a design that leans on a hosted sandbox to do work your own worker could do gets expensive quietly. Know which dimension each part of your agent burns.

And know what's portable. Composio's value is managed auth and a large toolkit behind one interface — real work you'd otherwise do yourself. But the connectors underneath are mostly OAuth against APIs you can reach directly, and MCP is a standard, not a moat. Anything you build should be able to point somewhere else without a rewrite. That's not a prediction about Composio. It's how we'd build on any vendor whose pricing can move 13x in one announcement.
