Discord Discoverable Servers go to web search: audit by Nov 16

Discord will publish Discoverable Server pages and AI summaries on November 16, then public messages in web search. Audit your public channels now.

If your brand runs a Discord community in Server Discovery, part of it is about to go on the open web. On October 27, Discord announced that Discoverable Servers will get public web pages with automated channel summaries on November 16, and that selected public-channel messages will start to show up in web search in mid-December. Your support channel is about to become search content. Decide what goes out before Discord decides for you.

What actually happened

  • Who it hits: Only Discoverable Servers. Discord's bar for Discovery is at least 1,000 members, eight weeks of age, and its activity and safety requirements. Discord says more than 63,000 servers qualify. Private servers, DMs, and group DMs are out of scope.
  • November 16: Every Discoverable Server gets a Server Web Page. If you have not set one up, Discord publishes a default page from your Server Profile. Automated Channel Summaries of active public channels can start the same day.
  • Mid-December: Individual messages from public channels begin to roll out to web search, gradually.
  • Admin controls: In Server Settings > Web Presence you pick which channels take part. Public channels are on by default. You can also curate or turn off summaries.
  • Member controls: Each member can turn off "Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages" in User Settings > Data and Privacy. It is off by default only in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea. Elsewhere it is on.
  • What shows: No usernames or avatars. Messages sent before mid-December are never included.

TechCrunch reports the change drew backlash on X and Reddit from users who never expected their posts to leave Discord.

Why Discord web search matters for your business

Your support channel is now a public FAQ. Customers paste order numbers, describe defects, and vent in #help. An anonymous message with an order number in it is not anonymous. Treat any public channel as a page Google can read.

The summaries are not yours. Discord writes the Channel Summaries automatically, and the member opt-out does not cover them. A bad week in #bugs can turn into the first thing a prospect reads about you. Curate or turn them off.

There is an upside. Good answers in a well-run #faq channel are free search traffic. Turn that channel on on purpose. Do not let every channel ride on a default.

Defaults are a policy. Discord chose "on" for most of your members. If your community promised a private-feeling space, tell members about the change and the opt-out before December.

Key takeaways

  • Only Discoverable Servers are affected; check if yours is one
  • November 16: public Server Web Pages and AI Channel Summaries start
  • Mid-December: public-channel messages roll out to web search
  • Go to Server Settings > Web Presence and turn off every channel that holds customer issues
  • Pin an announcement that tells members where the opt-out is

Move customer issues out of public chat. We build support intake that sends order problems to a private ticket queue with your order data attached, and keeps the public channel for answers you want indexed. See how we build it, or tell us how your community runs today.
