Framer MCP server: AI agents can now edit your website and CMS

Framer MCP lets ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and Grok build pages and edit CMS content in your Framer site. The agent gets your account's permissions. Scope that first.

Framer shipped an official Framer MCP server this week. Any AI client that speaks remote MCP can now build pages, edit layouts, and manage CMS collections inside your Framer site, without opening the editor. That means your marketing site is now a tool your AI agent can call. The question is no longer "can it edit the site." It's "which account is it editing as."

What actually happened

From Framer's setup guide and The Agile Brand Guide's launch coverage:

  • The endpoint: https://mcp.framer.com/mcp, a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server with OAuth sign-in.
  • Clients: One-click installs for ChatGPT/Codex, Claude and Claude Code, Cursor, and Grok. Setup guides cover VS Code, Windsurf, Warp, Devin, and Kiro.
  • What agents can do: Create and edit pages, update CMS collections and items, and inspect page structure such as metadata, headings, and alt text. The agent can work while the Framer editor is closed.
  • Permissions: Framer's guide is blunt: the connection "uses the permissions of the Framer account you sign in with." Every project that account can reach, the agent can reach. Workspace admins may need to approve MCP connections.
  • Publishing: Changes land in the project. You review them on the canvas, then publish yourself or tell the agent to do it.
  • Not at parity yet: The older local CLI bridge, @framer/agent, still handles extra workflows, including localization. Framer says both stay supported until MCP catches up.
  • Billing: Per the launch coverage, AI usage bills through your AI tool's plan, not Framer.

Why the Framer MCP server matters for your business

Bulk CMS work just got cheap. Fifty location pages, a product changelog, a blog import from an old WordPress export. That was a week of copy-paste. Now it's a prompt and a review pass.

Account scope is your blast radius. If you sign the agent in as the workspace owner, it can touch every client site and every project in that workspace. Make a separate Framer seat for agent work, give it access to one project, and sign in with that.

Publish is the line. Keep the human on the publish button. An agent that writes a bad CMS item costs you a revert. An agent that publishes one puts it in Google's index.

Your SEO gets an audit loop. Metadata, headings, and alt text are readable over MCP. Run a weekly agent pass that flags missing alt text and duplicate titles, and ship the fixes after a look.

Key takeaways

  • Framer MCP lives at mcp.framer.com/mcp and works with ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Grok, and more
  • Agents can build pages and edit CMS content with the editor closed
  • The agent inherits every permission of the account you sign in with
  • Use a dedicated seat scoped to one project, and keep publishing manual

Want an agent running your content pipeline without running your whole site? We set up MCP connections with scoped accounts, review queues, and a clear human gate before anything goes live. See what we build, or tell us what your site needs to do.
