Gemini small business hub: Shopify, Xero, Canva in one app

Google just gave small business owners their own front door in Gemini. The new Gemini small business hub is a landing page inside the Gemini app that connects to Shopify, Xero, Canva, Google Ads, and more, keeps your brand style on file, and turns receipts and spreadsheets into charts. Google says it goes to all Gemini app users, and it rolls out globally over the coming days. The useful question is not "should we try it." It is "what should it be allowed to see."

What actually happened

Google's October 20 announcement, from Gemini App senior director Vishnu Sivaji, lists the pieces:

• A business landing page: one place in the Gemini app to build your brand, analyze finances, and review customer insights.
• Connected apps: Google Business Profile, Google Ads, and Google Workspace on the Google side. Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho, and Xero on the third-party side.
• Saved brand style: upload your website, brand kit, fonts, or color palette once. Gemini applies it to new assets with Nano Banana 2.1, Google's latest image model, so you stop re-pasting brand guidelines into every prompt.
• Finance skills: Gemini turns spreadsheets, receipts, and purchase records into financial graphics and interactive models.
• Who gets it: all Gemini app users, rolling out globally "in the coming days." Google points businesses that need admin controls and data governance to its separate Gemini for business tier on Google Cloud.

What the post does not say: what each connection can change, whether Gemini can act in those apps without a prompt, and which languages the features support. We would not assume the answers.

Why the Gemini small business hub matters for your business

This is the easiest AI on-ramp a small shop has had. No integration project, no API keys. Connect Shopify and Xero, ask why margin dropped in September, and get a chart. For a five-person business with no analyst, that is real value.

It is also a consumer app holding your books. The hub runs in the personal Gemini app, not the admin-managed business tier. That means the person who clicks "connect" decides what the AI reads. If that person is a part-time marketer with a Xero login, your general ledger is now in their chat history. Decide who connects what before the rollout reaches your team.

Charts are not a close. An interactive model built from receipts is a good first look. It is not reconciled numbers. Check the totals against your accounting system before you act on a trend Gemini drew.

Your workflow should not live in one vendor's sidebar. If the most useful automation in your business only exists inside Gemini, you rent it. Write down the prompts and data sources that work, so you can move them later.
