Instinct hit $10B — its agent now phones your shop
Instinct raised $1B at a $10B valuation a month after a $2.5B round, and shipped a concierge that calls businesses with no online booking. Prepare your front desk.
A consumer AI agent with a billion dollars of fresh capital is going to start calling your business, and it will not be a person on the line. On September 28 Instinct announced a $1 billion Series C from Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital and Coatue at a $10 billion valuation — roughly 4x the $2.5 billion it was worth about a month earlier. The feature that should hold your attention is not the round. It is the concierge that places phone calls to businesses that have no online booking.
What actually happened
Instinct is a personal agent that works over SMS rather than a dedicated app. It books travel, makes reservations, pays bills, cancels subscriptions and runs research end to end. It launched invite-only in August 2026, which means this valuation arrived inside roughly two months of public existence. Founder Noah Shinn's line is that the company is building an agent that can "handle the deeply personal nuances of everyday life."
Two recent features matter operationally. The concierge makes phone calls to businesses that lack an online booking path — a restaurant with no reservation widget, a clinic with a receptionist, a shop that takes appointments by phone. And a trusted person network lets one user's agent coordinate plans directly with a friend's agent, which means a booking request can originate from a negotiation no human watched.
Reported figures for the prior round vary between outlets — some say a $350M Series B, others $250M — so we are only stating the $2.5 billion valuation that both agree on. Instinct has not disclosed revenue, subscriber counts or pricing. Its stated competition is Meta's Muse, which carries deeper distribution inside Meta's apps.
Why an AI agent calling your business matters for your business
Your phone line is now an API with no documentation. Agents will call it, wait on hold, navigate your IVR, and give up or succeed based on how your front desk behaves. If your booking flow only exists in a receptionist's head, that is the integration surface, and it is the least reliable one you own. Publishing real online booking is now cheaper than being called.
Attribution is about to get strange. A booking made by an agent on behalf of a customer arrives with the agent's phone number, the agent's voice, and sometimes the agent's email. Your CRM will record a customer who never spoke to you. Decide now how you tag agent-originated bookings, because your no-show rate, your repeat-customer math and your marketing attribution all depend on telling the two apart.
Ask who is on the line, and log the answer. You are entitled to know whether you are talking to a person or software, and you need it in the record for disputes, deposits and cancellations. Add the question to your call script this week. It costs nothing and it is the only cheap way to get the data.
A two-month-old agent at $10B is a vendor, not a standard. Capital at this pace buys features fast and changes direction fast. Build for the general case — machine-readable availability, a real booking endpoint, clear cancellation terms — not for one company's concierge, which may work differently next quarter.
No-shows are the risk, not the calls. An agent that books optimistically on a user's behalf will produce bookings the user only half-committed to. If agent-originated reservations are a meaningful share of your book, deposits and confirmation steps stop being optional.
