Kognitos AI Employees: 61 finance roles run on 515 SOPs

Kognitos launched AI Employees for finance and banking: 61 roles, 515 approved SOPs, 133 monitors, and MCP access. The lesson: write the procedure first.

Kognitos wants your back office to hire AI by job title. The San Jose company launched Kognitos AI Employees for finance and banking: 61 roles, from AP Specialist to Close Manager, each running only on written, approved standard operating procedures. The pitch is not a smarter model. It is an agent that does not improvise. That is the right instinct, and you can copy it without buying anything.

What actually happened

Per Kognitos' October 21 release on GlobeNewswire:

  • 61 AI Employee roles, backed by 515 SOPs. Named roles include AP Specialist, Reconciliation Accountant, Cash Application Specialist, Close Manager, and KYC & Onboarding Analyst.
  • Quill, a builder agent, studies a team's systems and transactions, compares them with written policy, and drafts SOPs in plain English. Nothing goes live until a person approves it.
  • Context Graph expansion: 133 ready-made finance monitors across 62 processes in 14 areas (duplicate invoice detection is one example). Each can become a continuous control.
  • REST and MCP access, so a customer's own AI agents can query the same business context, limited by the caller's permissions.
  • Audit trail: each run logs every ERP, bank, or inbox call with inputs, outputs, and the SOP version used. When a case falls outside the SOP, the run stops and asks a person.
  • Availability: a preview for existing Kognitos customers. The release lists no pricing.

CEO Binny Gill framed it as AI that "follows approved procedures rather than making up the process as it goes."

Why AI finance agents matter for your business

The SOP is the product. Kognitos' design says it plainly: the agent is only as safe as the procedure it runs. Most small businesses do not have their AP process written down. It lives in one bookkeeper's head. Before any AI touches your bills, write the procedure: who approves, what amount triggers a second look, what counts as a duplicate.

"Stop and ask" beats "try harder." The most useful line in the release is that an off-script case pauses the run. That is the behavior to demand from any finance agent, whether you buy it or we build it. An agent that guesses on a vendor payment is a liability.

MCP access cuts both ways. It means your other agents can read finance context. It also means one more door into your payment data. Scope it to read-only until you trust the logs.

This is enterprise software today. Preview access is for existing customers with no public price. A small business gets the same benefit from a written SOP, an approval step, and a log, on tools you already pay for.

Key takeaways

  • Kognitos launched 61 finance and banking AI Employee roles running on 515 approved SOPs
  • A builder agent drafts SOPs, and a person must approve them before they run
  • Off-script cases pause and ask a human, and every system call is logged
  • REST and MCP access let your own agents read the same finance context
  • Write your AP and close procedures down before you automate any of them

Want an AP or close workflow that follows your rules, not a model's guesses? We build finance automations with approval gates and audit logs on systems you own. See what we build, or price the hours it would save.
