Melius raises $25M for AI ad creative agents: own your brand rules
Melius, an AI ad creative agent platform from ex-Ramp engineers, raised $25M led by CRV. Why cheap AI creative makes your brand rules the real asset.
Melius, a platform where AI agents produce ad campaigns, images, and video, announced $25 million in total funding on October 6. The founders are former Ramp engineers who threw out their first product and rebuilt from zero. The money is not the story for a small business. The story is that AI ad creative is turning into a crowded, cheap category, and when anyone can make 200 ad variants in an afternoon, the thing that makes yours different is not the tool.
What actually happened
Per TechCrunch:
- The round. A $20 million Series A led by CRV, on top of a $5 million seed led by General Catalyst, for $25 million total.
- The team. Co-founders Joowon Kim, Young Kim, and Arnav Ramu, all ex-Ramp engineers, based in New York. After more than six months on their first idea, they scrapped the whole codebase.
- Traction. Melius came out of stealth in July 2026 and says it passed $1 million in annualized run rate within about two months.
- The field. TechCrunch names Higgsfield, Krea, and Flora AI as competitors. Higgsfield alone is reported at a $5.4 billion valuation.
On its own site, Melius describes a node-based canvas: each prompt, image, video, or audio clip is a node, and one node's output feeds the next.
Why it matters for your business
When several funded companies compete to make AI ad creative, the price of a finished ad keeps falling. Google cut its own image-model price in half the same day. Good for your budget. Bad for differentiation, because your competitor has the same tools.
So the asset worth building is not a subscription. It is your brand rules in a form an agent can read:
- Write it down. Colors, fonts, logo spacing, words you never use, claims legal has approved, product facts. One document, not a vibe in the owner's head.
- Keep your approved examples. Your 20 best-performing ads, tagged with why they worked. That is your reference set for any tool.
- Keep a human gate on claims. An agent can make the image. A person signs off on prices, discounts, and health or safety claims before anything runs.
- Stay portable. Canvas tools come and go. If your rules, references, and results live in your own files, you can switch vendors in a day.
Key takeaways
- Melius raised $25M total: a $20M Series A led by CRV plus a $5M seed led by General Catalyst
- It reports a $1M+ annualized run rate about two months after its July 2026 launch
- AI ad creative is a crowded category, so per-ad costs keep dropping
- Your written brand rules and approved examples are the part competitors cannot copy
- Keep a human approval step for prices and claims, whatever tool makes the ad
