Notion Agents now run 24 hours, credits change November 2
Notion rebuilt its AI agents: 24-hour tasks, an Auto model router claiming 90% lower cost, and new monthly credits. Existing workspaces switch November 2.
Notion rebuilt its AI agents. A single task can now run for more than 24 hours, up from five minutes. A new Auto router picks the model for each task. And the credit system changes: new customers get it today, existing workspaces move over on November 2. If your team runs Custom Agents in Notion, that date is your deadline to know what they cost.
What actually happened
Notion co-founder Akshay Kothari announced the changes in an October 19 post. Notion calls it the sixth generation of its agent harness.
- Longer tasks: Agents can work on one task for 24+ hours. Long conversations get compacted, and large tool results are stored outside the context window.
- Auto routing: Auto sends each task to a model based on quality, speed, and cost. If a model stops making progress, Auto switches. Notion says that across "20+ common use cases," Auto got results similar to Opus 5.5 at about 90% lower average cost. That is Notion's own test, not an independent one.
- More tools: Agents now connect to hundreds of tools through MCP and connectors, up from a few dozen.
- Safety check: A "Review for me" mode uses a separate model to check an action before the agent takes it.
- Credits: Business and Enterprise seats get 1,500 Standard credits a month (Auto picks the model) and 500 Select credits (you pick the model, or you run Custom Agents). Admins can buy more.
- Controls: An AI Command Center adds usage dashboards, spending limits, alerts, and model restrictions. Enterprise bring-your-own-key is in private alpha.
Why the Notion agent credit change matters for your business
The headline is 24-hour agents. The line that will hit your bill is the split between Standard and Select credits.
Custom Agents draw from the smaller pool: 500 Select credits per seat. If your team set up agents that pin a specific model, those agents draw from the small pool too. Notion says most users won't run out. Maybe. But Custom Agents pause when credits run out, and nobody notices a paused weekly report until a week later.
Before November 2:
- List every Custom Agent. Who owns it, what triggers it, which model it uses.
- Test Auto on the ones that matter. A 90% saving is worth checking against your own output. Run the same task both ways and compare.
- Set spending alerts. The new Command Center has them. Turn them on before the switch.
- Watch the 24-hour runs. A task that runs all day also spends credits all day. Start with one agent, not ten.
Key takeaways
- Notion Agents can now run a single task for 24+ hours, up from five minutes
- The Auto router claims results similar to Opus 5.5 at about 90% lower cost, per Notion's own tests
- Business and Enterprise seats get 1,500 Standard and 500 Select credits a month; Custom Agents use Select
- Existing workspaces move to the new system November 2, 2026
- Inventory your Custom Agents and set spending alerts before the switch
