Pigment raises $250M: AI financial planning wants your Excel

Pigment raised $250M at a $2.3B valuation for AI financial planning software. Before you move your forecast off spreadsheets, make sure the model stays yours.

Pigment, the Paris company that sells AI financial planning software, raised $250 million at a $2.3 billion valuation, Bloomberg reported. The target is the spreadsheet: Pigment wants to be the place where a business builds its forecast, plans its headcount, and makes the board deck. For a small business, the question is not whether to buy Pigment. It is what happens to your numbers when any planning tool becomes the source of truth.

What actually happened

Per Bloomberg, as summarized on Techmeme:

  • The round: $250 million at a $2.3 billion valuation. The Scaleup Europe Fund led, with Nvidia participating. Existing investors Iconiq, IVP, and Meritech Capital also took part.
  • The product: AI software that helps businesses forecast finances, plan operations, and build slide decks.
  • The traction: Pigment passed $100 million in annual recurring revenue, about double the year before. Anthropic uses it as its financial planning system.
  • The targets: customers on SAP, Oracle, IBM, Anaplan, and Microsoft. Bloomberg also reports plans to expand into Asia.

Why AI financial planning matters for your business

This category is coming down market. At $100 million ARR and new capital, planning vendors will push into smaller companies. Expect AI features that write the forecast from your bookkeeping data and draft the deck for your lender.

Your forecast logic is the asset. The value of a planning model is the assumptions in it: how you price, when you hire, what a slow month does to cash. In a spreadsheet, those formulas are visible and portable. In a platform, they live in the vendor's format. Before you migrate, confirm you can export the drivers and formulas, not just the outputs.

AI-written numbers need a check. If a tool builds the forecast for you, someone still has to know why revenue goes up in March. Keep one person who can explain each assumption without opening the app.

Small teams may not need a platform. For many operators, a clean spreadsheet fed by your accounting system's API, plus an AI step that flags variances, covers most of what a 10-person company needs, for much less money.
