Reddit kills RSS and its public API: fix automations by Nov 13
Reddit ends RSS feeds November 13 and closes its public API by March 2027. Brand monitors, Zapier flows and listening tools built on them will break.
Reddit is turning off RSS feeds on November 13 and closing its public API by March 2027. Reddit says both have become channels for AI bots that scrape at scale. If your business watches Reddit for brand mentions, leads or product complaints through an RSS feed or a cheap listening tool, that pipeline has about six weeks left.
What actually happened
Reddit announced the changes on September 30 in posts to r/modnews and r/redditdev, as TechCrunch reports. The dates:
- November 13, 2026: RSS feed support ends. Reddit called RSS "a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse."
- January 12, 2027: third-party developers must register an approved app by this date to keep API access.
- March 2027: public API access ends.
Per TechCrunch, the API change hits social listening products, research tools and AI assistants that read Reddit to answer questions. After March, those need a commercial data deal with Reddit. Moderators get a Discord Relay app as a partial replacement for RSS. For RSS feeds used outside moderation, Reddit offers no replacement.
Reddit also said it will limit Old Reddit to some logged-in users. Reports differ on the exact rule, so check Reddit's own post before you plan around it.
Why the Reddit RSS shutdown matters for your business
A lot of small-business monitoring is held together with RSS. A Zapier or Make flow that watches reddit.com/r/yoursubreddit/.rss and posts new threads to Slack. A keyword search feed that pings you when someone asks for a recommendation in your city. Those stop on November 13, and they will stop quietly. An empty feed looks the same as a slow week.
Here is the order we would work in:
List every Reddit dependency today. Search your Zapier, Make, n8n and IFTTT accounts for "reddit.com." Ask your marketing tools vendor in writing whether they use RSS or the public API, and what their plan is.
Register an app if you build your own. If you run a script against the API, register it before January 12. Unregistered access is the first thing to go.
Expect listening tools to cost more. A vendor that has to sign a commercial deal with Reddit will pass that cost on. Budget for it, or decide Reddit monitoring is not worth the new price.
Treat any free data feed as rented. This is the same lesson as Twitter's API in 2023. Your own email list, your own site analytics and your own CRM do not get turned off by someone else's board meeting.
Key takeaways
- Reddit RSS feeds stop working November 13, 2026
- Developers must register an approved app by January 12, 2027 to keep API access
- The public API closes in March 2027; AI and listening tools will need paid deals
- Audit Zapier, Make and n8n flows for Reddit RSS URLs this week
- Ask your social listening vendor in writing how they will keep Reddit data
Automations built on a free feed break the day the feed owner changes their mind. We audit the integrations your business runs on, find the ones that depend on someone else's goodwill, and rebuild them on data you own. Send us the flows you are worried about, or see what we have rebuilt.
