Suno MCP server: AI music in Claude, but check your plan
Suno's MCP server beta makes songs from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Cursor. It works on the Free plan, and Free songs carry no commercial rights.
Suno launched a Suno MCP server in beta on October 29. Connect it to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude Code, or Cursor and your assistant writes the lyrics and style, then Suno makes the track. For a small business that wants a jingle for an ad or a hold-music loop, that sounds like a free win. It is not free if you plan to use the song commercially, and the chat window will not tell you that.
What actually happened
From Suno's MCP page, its MCP beta FAQ, and Music Ally's report:
- How it connects. One remote endpoint,
https://api.suno.com/mcp. No API key: you sign in to Suno and approve the connection. In Claude Code it is oneclaude mcp add --transport httpcommand. - What it does. Generate songs from a conversation, turn uploaded audio such as a voice memo into a full track, make covers, mashups, and extensions from your library, and use saved Suno Voices.
- Who gets it. Suno's FAQ says the beta works on all plans, including Free. The launch page still routes people through an early-access form. Some AI apps only allow custom connectors on their paid tiers.
- What it costs. It spends your Suno credits, and songs land in your Suno library.
The rights live on Suno's pricing page, not on the MCP page. Free gets 50 credits a day and "No commercial rights." Pro at $8 a month and Premier at $24 a month include commercial use rights, subject to the terms of service.
Why it matters for your business
- The plan is the license. An agent will make a track on a Free account just as happily as on Pro. If that track ends up in an ad, it was made without commercial rights. Check which account is connected before anyone on the team asks for "a quick jingle."
- Agents spend credits, too. Any MCP tool that bills per call can drain a balance in a long session. Use a dedicated account with a known plan, not someone's personal login.
- Keep the receipt. For every track you publish, log the account, the plan at creation time, and the date. If a platform or a client asks where the audio came from, that is your answer.
- This is the pattern for every creative MCP. Image, video, and voice tools are all moving into the chat window. The license terms are not moving with them.
Key takeaways
- Suno MCP beta launched October 29 for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude Code, and Cursor
- Sign-in auth, no API key; it uses your Suno credits
- Free plan works but has no commercial rights; Pro ($8) and Premier ($24) do
- Connect a dedicated business account and log plan and date for each published track
