TikTok Buy Direct: one-click checkout outside TikTok Shop
TikTok Buy Direct adds one-click checkout from brands plus an AI Shopping Assistant, built with Shopify and Stripe. What your catalog data needs before it hits the feed.
TikTok launched Buy Direct, a one-click in-app checkout that lets shoppers buy from a brand without leaving the app, plus a conversational Shopping Assistant that answers product questions inside the feed, TechCrunch reports. Per Adweek, Buy Direct runs separately from TikTok Shop. That is the hook: a path to sell on TikTok without becoming a TikTok Shop seller. The catch is that an AI agent now answers your customers' questions, using whatever product data you feed it.
What actually happened
TikTok announced the products on October 5 around Advertising Week New York:
- Buy Direct lets users purchase from a brand directly from the For You feed with one click, using stored payment methods and saved addresses, per TechCrunch.
- Shopping Assistant is a conversational agent that handles product details, shipping, sizing, availability and purchase in one conversation.
- TikTok says it is building these with Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe, among others.
- Agentic Leads, a lead-capture agent, runs in TikTok direct messages and in lead forms on advertisers' own sites, per Marketing Dive. TikTok's Business MCP now also connects to Claude, Perplexity, Snowflake, Kimi and Manus.
- Adweek says the features are starting to roll out to U.S. users and brands.
What TikTok has not said: fees, who is merchant of record, and which brands qualify. Don't build a plan on numbers that don't exist yet.
Why it matters for your business
The assistant reads your data, not your mind. When a shopper asks "does this run small?" or "will it ship by Friday?", the agent answers from your catalog. Missing size charts, vague shipping windows and stale inventory turn into confident wrong answers, and the returns land on you.
Checkout off your site still needs your systems. Orders that come in from a feed have to reach the same inventory, fulfillment and support stack as everything else. If your Shopify store is the system of record, confirm the order sync works before you turn on the channel. Don't plan on reconciling by hand.
One more channel means one more dependency. We have watched platforms change terms mid-season. Keep your customer list, your product data and your order history in systems you own, and treat each channel as a pipe into them.
Key takeaways
- TikTok Buy Direct is one-click checkout from brands, separate from TikTok Shop, rolling out in the U.S.
- Shopping Assistant answers sizing, shipping and availability questions from your product data
- Partners include Shopify, Stripe, Salesforce and Shoplazza; fees and eligibility are not public yet
- Fix size charts, shipping promises and inventory sync before an agent repeats them to buyers
- Route every channel's orders into one system you own
