VistaPrint is now a Gemini app. AI chat is a sales channel

VistaPrint launched a Google Gemini connected app: shoppers design and price 7,800+ print products in chat, then go to cart. What it means for your catalog.

VistaPrint now sells inside Google Gemini. On October 20, the Cimpress-owned printer announced a Gemini connected app that lets small business owners search, price and design from a catalog of more than 7,800 print products without leaving the chat. The customer never opens vistaprint.com until the cart. That is the new shape of an AI shopping channel, and it applies to any business with a catalog.

What actually happened

Per VistaPrint's Business Wire release:

  • How users turn it on. In Gemini, users open "Personal Intelligence" settings and enable VistaPrint under "Connected Apps." It is live now for English-language users in the U.S.
  • What it does in chat. Browse by need, size, material and finish with live pricing. Upload a logo, image or PDF and turn it into a print-ready design, or start from a template. Gemini shows a preview of the finished product.
  • Where the sale closes. Final designs go to a VistaPrint cart for purchase. Checkout stays on VistaPrint's side.
  • What comes next. VistaPrint says Gemini is the first of several AI assistant integrations it plans to launch this quarter, and it will add regions and languages as Google opens the connector.

CTO Adam Denenberg put it plainly: "The way people shop hasn't waited for brands to catch up." The release also cites a company figure that 77 percent of small businesses use AI somewhere in their print buying. VistaPrint did not publish the method behind that number, so treat it as a vendor stat.

Why it matters for your business

A connected app in an AI assistant is not a chatbot on your website. The assistant owns the conversation. Your business supplies three things: structured product data, live prices, and a way to hand the order back to you. If any of those three is weak, the assistant shows a competitor whose data is clean.

Look at what VistaPrint kept. The cart and the payment stay on its own site. The customer relationship, the order record and the upsell still belong to VistaPrint. That is the right line to hold. Let the assistant do discovery and design. Keep checkout, customer data and fulfillment in systems you own.

For a smaller shop, the work starts before any Gemini or ChatGPT listing. Your catalog needs real attributes (size, material, lead time) in fields, not buried in product copy. Your prices need an API, not a PDF. Your cart needs a deep link that accepts a prebuilt order. Do that once and every AI channel that opens next is a connector, not a rebuild.

Key takeaways

  • VistaPrint launched a Google Gemini connected app on October 20: search, price and design 7,800+ print products in chat
  • U.S. English users only for now; more AI assistant integrations are planned this quarter
  • The sale still closes in a VistaPrint cart, so the brand keeps checkout and the customer record
  • The 77 percent AI-use figure is VistaPrint's own stat with no published method
  • Get your catalog attributes, live pricing API and cart deep links ready before you chase AI channels
