Zenzap raises $44M for AI chat for frontline crews
Zenzap raised $44M to replace WhatsApp groups at work with AI chat and agents for frontline teams. If your shift schedule lives in a group text, read this.
Zenzap, a workplace chat app with AI built in, has raised $44 million from Bessemer, Lightspeed, and The Garage. The pitch is simple: frontline teams run on WhatsApp and iMessage groups, and you cannot put an AI agent or an IT policy on top of somebody's personal phone. We have seen this exact problem in every restaurant, crew, and warehouse we have worked with. The shift swap, the supply order, and the customer complaint all live in a group text that the business does not own.
What actually happened
Per TechCrunch, Zenzap was founded in 2022 by Guy Weiss, with co-founders Noam Neumann and Jonatan Bien. This is its first outside capital. The company has about 50 staff across the U.S., Tel Aviv, and Europe.
The product targets mobile-first workers in hospitality, construction, healthcare, and fast food — not developers on Slack. Named customers include FedEx, Dollar General, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Casey's, and Regal.
The pricing has three layers:
- Free tier: group chats, DMs, task management, calendar integration, scheduling, and AI voice chat and search.
- Paid plans from $51/month for up to 20 users: voice and video calls, smart task sorting, templates, more storage, workspace-wide AI search, and message-to-task conversion.
- Credit-based AI: agents for workflow automation, plus voice note and call transcription.
Why frontline AI chat matters for your business
The funding is not the story. The story is where your operations data lives.
Your group chat is an unowned database. Every "can someone cover Saturday" and "we're out of 16oz cups" is an operational event. In WhatsApp, it disappears into personal phones. When an employee leaves, the history leaves with them. You cannot search it, report on it, or automate it.
AI agents need a channel you control. An agent that turns "out of cups" into a purchase order needs API access to the messages and a place to write the task. Consumer messengers do not give you that. A work channel does — whether that is Zenzap, Slack, Teams, or a simple SMS line wired into your own system.
Model the credits before you roll out. Credit-based AI pricing looks cheap on 20 seats and grows with every voice note and automation. Count your crew's real message volume for a week before you pick a plan.
Moving a crew off WhatsApp is a people problem first. Pick one workflow — shift swaps or supply requests — and move that, not the whole group.
Key takeaways
- Zenzap raised $44M from Bessemer, Lightspeed, and The Garage for AI chat aimed at frontline workers
- Paid plans start at $51/month for up to 20 users; AI agents and transcription use credits
- Customers include FedEx, Dollar General, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Casey's, and Regal
- Group texts hold operational data your business does not own or search
- Move one workflow first, and measure message volume before you commit to credit pricing
Does your crew run the business from a group text? We build the layer behind it: a work channel you own, wired to your scheduling, inventory, and ordering tools, with agents that turn messages into tasks you can track. See what we build, or estimate the hours your team spends chasing messages.
