Alexa for Shopping Adds 100+ Actions: AI Does Customer Service

Alexa for Shopping now handles 100+ actions: refunds, Subscribe & Save skips, registries, billing. AI shopping agents now do post-purchase service. Here's yours.

Amazon just gave Alexa for Shopping more than 100 new actions, and most of them are not about buying. Skip a Subscribe & Save delivery. Ask where a refund is. Flag a charge you don't recognize. Move items between a wish list and a baby registry. The AI shopping agent now does the customer service work that used to need a help page, a form and a wait. That is the new baseline your customers will carry to your store.

What actually happened

Amazon announced the update this week. Its examples fall into five groups:

  • Lists and registries: create lists, add to them, and move items between lists and registries.
  • Subscribe & Save: skip the next delivery, pause a subscription, or change the schedule.
  • Prime and subscriptions: Prime benefits, Prime savings this year, Audible renewal dates.
  • Delivery instructions: change or add instructions for an address.
  • Payments and billing: unrecognized charges, gift card balances, refund status.

The actions are live for all U.S. Amazon customers through the Alexa icon in the Amazon Shopping app and at the top of the screen on desktop. Amazon says more than 400 million customers used Alexa for Shopping in the last 12 months, and use of its agentic features is up more than eight times since January. Chain Store Age also covered the launch.

Amazon did not say how many of the 100+ actions it listed. The five groups above are its examples, not the full set.

Why AI customer service matters for your business

When we covered Alexa for Shopping in August, the lesson was about product data: the agent answers from your listing. This update moves the agent past the sale. "Where's my refund?" and "pause my subscription" are the tickets that eat a small store's support hours, and Amazon now answers them in one sentence.

Your customers won't compare you to other small shops. They'll compare you to that.

Count your top five tickets. Pull the last 90 days. Refund status, order tracking, subscription changes and address edits usually cover most of the volume.

Make each one an action, not an article. A help article that says "email us to pause" is a ticket. A tool that reads the order system and pauses the subscription is an action. Shopify, Recharge and Stripe all expose APIs for this.

Keep a human on money. Read-only answers (status, balance, tracking) can be automatic. Refunds and charge disputes go to a person, or behind an approval step.

Log every action. If an agent changes an order, you need to see what, when and why.

Key takeaways

  • Alexa for Shopping added 100+ actions, live for all U.S. Amazon customers
  • Examples cover subscriptions, refunds, billing, registries and delivery instructions
  • Amazon says 400M+ customers used it in the last 12 months; agentic use is up 8x this year
  • Post-purchase service is now part of what shoppers expect from an AI agent
  • Automate read-only answers first; keep refunds and disputes behind a human

Turn your top support tickets into actions your customers can run themselves. We build support agents wired into your order, subscription and payment systems, with approval gates on anything that moves money. See how we build it, or price the hours you'd get back.
