ChatGPT ads hit 89 countries and 100,000 advertisers
OpenAI expanded ChatGPT ads to 26 more countries, 89 total, with self-serve Ads Manager and 100,000+ advertisers. The cheap-inventory window is closing.
ChatGPT ads now run in 89 countries. OpenAI added 26 markets on October 21, and said more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since it started testing ads in the U.S. earlier this year. Two months ago we wrote that the India launch looked like a rollout schedule. It was. The new number that matters is not the country count. It is the advertiser count, because that is your competition in the auction.
What actually happened
Per Reuters:
- New markets: 14 more Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru, after Mexico and Brazil. Plus markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, including Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
- How to buy: through technology partners, or self-serve in Ads Manager.
- Who sees ads: Free and Go users only. Plus, Pro, and Enterprise stay ad-free.
- Scale: 100,000+ advertisers to date. OpenAI said in August the ads business hit a $1 billion annualized run rate.
Reuters frames the push as revenue-building ahead of a potential IPO. In September, OpenAI also added AI tools for advertisers and started testing business-sponsored agents with select U.S. brands.
Why ChatGPT ads matter for your business
New ad channels have one good moment: when inventory is cheap and few bidders show up. With 100,000 advertisers in the pool, that moment is ending in the U.S. and Europe. It is just starting in the 26 new markets. If you sell into Latin America, Africa, or South Asia, this is your early window. If you sell only in the U.S., the easy CPMs are probably behind you, and the job now is to buy well, not first.
Buying well comes down to one thing: knowing what a click did after it landed. Advertisers get impressions and clicks, not the conversation. That makes your own tracking the only conversion data you will have. Tag landing pages with parameters that survive redirects and consent banners. Capture the source at session start on your server and write it to the order. Then set a cost-per-order ceiling before you raise a budget.
There is also a pricing signal. A $1 billion run rate and an IPO story mean OpenAI has every reason to raise auction floors over time. Build your test plan on today's prices, and assume tomorrow's will be higher.
Key takeaways
- OpenAI added ChatGPT ads in 26 more countries on October 21, bringing the total to 89
- More than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns; the ads business passed a $1B annualized run rate in August
- Ads show to Free and Go users only, bought through partners or self-serve Ads Manager
- The new markets are where cheap early inventory is now; U.S. and European auctions are getting crowded
- Advertisers see clicks, not conversations, so server-side attribution is your only conversion data
100,000 advertisers means you have to buy smarter, not earlier. Use our ROI calculator to set a cost-per-order ceiling before you scale spend, then see how we build server-side attribution you own so every ChatGPT click ties back to an order.
