Ollie AI Assistant Shuts Down Nov. 6: One Week to Exit
Ollie, a Khosla-backed AI assistant with SOC 2, shuts down November 6 with one week of notice. How to plan your exit before an AI vendor closes.
Ollie, a privacy-focused AI assistant, shuts down on November 6, TechCrunch reported. That is one week of notice. Ollie raised a $7.5 million seed round led by Khosla Ventures and had SOC 2. It did everything a careful buyer checks for, and it still closed. If an AI tool runs part of your business, this AI assistant shutdown is the test case.
What actually happened
Ollie was a text-based subscription assistant for families. It connected to email and calendar and handled appointment booking, meal planning, and bill payments. Co-founder and CEO Bill Lennon announced the shutdown on X on Friday.
His reason was competition. Per TechCrunch, Lennon said that with Muse, Instinct, and others in the space, it got harder to stand out, grow, and raise money. Customers will get instructions to export data and get refunds "in the coming days." No export deadline or refund terms were public at the time of the report.
Ollie launched its bet on privacy in September. Big platforms shipped their own agents at the same time: Meta's Muse, OpenAI's Dots, and Anthropic's Claude Duet. A seed-stage startup cannot outspend that.
Why an AI assistant shutdown matters for your business
Small AI vendors are fighting the largest companies in the world for the same customers, and the money to fund that fight got harder to find this week. Expect more shutdowns. A SOC 2 report tells you a vendor handles data well. It tells you nothing about whether the vendor will exist next quarter.
Before you connect an AI tool to your inbox, calendar, or payments, ask:
- What can I export, and in what format? Test the export on day one, not on shutdown week.
- Where do my workflows live? If the prompts, rules, and automations exist only in the vendor's UI, you lose them when it closes. Keep a copy in a doc or repo you own.
- What is the notice clause? Get 90 days in writing if the tool runs anything customer-facing.
- What breaks on the day it stops? List the bookings, reminders, and payments that depend on it, and who does them by hand.
One week is enough time to export data. It is not enough time to rebuild a process.
Key takeaways
- Ollie, a Khosla-backed AI assistant with SOC 2, shuts down November 6 with one week of notice
- The CEO cited competition from Muse, Instinct, and others, and difficulty raising money
- Export and refund instructions were promised but not published at the time of the report
- For your business: test exports early, keep workflows in files you own, and negotiate notice terms
If your workflow lives inside a startup's app, it closes when the startup does. We build automations on infrastructure you own, with the prompts and rules in your repo. See how we build or tell us what you depend on.
