Optimove Zero Copy Customer Lists: audiences from Snowflake
Optimove's Zero Copy Customer Lists builds marketing audiences with SQL on your Snowflake data and pulls back only customer IDs. Open beta. Send IDs, not rows.
Optimove now lets marketers build audiences from data that never leaves their Snowflake account. The feature is called Zero Copy Customer Lists. You write a SQL query, it runs in your warehouse, and Optimove gets back only the customer IDs that match. Credit scores, KYC status, risk model outputs: they stay put. It is in open beta. The pattern matters more than the vendor, because it is the right way to wire any marketing tool to sensitive data.
What actually happened
Optimove announced the feature on October 26 in a press release, with DestinationCRM covering it. How it works:
- Connect once. Optimove connects to your Snowflake environment.
- Query, get IDs. In Optimove Data Studio, you write a SQL query that returns customer IDs. It runs one time or on a schedule. Optimove retrieves the matching IDs and nothing else.
- Refine. Saving the list creates an audience, which you can narrow with data already in Optimove.
- Status. Open beta, "rolling out incrementally to Optimove customers." The release names only Snowflake. It gives no pricing.
The release also says Snowflake processes more than 8.4 billion rows of customer data a day for Optimove's brands, and that historical refreshes dropped from three days to 40 minutes. Those numbers describe Optimove's Snowflake setup in general, not this feature. Treat them as vendor claims.
Why it matters for your business
Every marketing tool wants a full copy of your customer table. Each copy is one more place to breach, one more place to honor a deletion request, and one more sync job that drifts. Send IDs, not rows is the better default, and it is how we wire clients' stacks when sensitive fields are involved.
You do not need Optimove to get there. Klaviyo, a CDP, or a custom email flow can all take a list of IDs or emails built by a query you control. Keep the scoring, the margin data and the risk flags in your own database. Push out only the segment membership the tool needs to send. Run the query on a schedule, and log what left.
If you are on Optimove and Snowflake, ask for beta access, then check which role the connection uses. Give it read access to the views it needs, not the whole warehouse. The query is yours, so the scope should be too.
Key takeaways
- Optimove Zero Copy Customer Lists runs SQL in your Snowflake account and returns only customer IDs
- Open beta, rolling out gradually; Snowflake only in the release; no pricing given
- Performance figures in the release are vendor claims about the wider platform
- The pattern works with any tool: keep sensitive fields home, export segment IDs
- Scope the warehouse role to the views the query needs
Your marketing tool does not need your whole customer table. We build data pipelines that keep sensitive fields in systems you own and push only the segments your tools need. See how we build commerce data systems, or tell us what your stack copies today.
