Google AI Mode ads go international as Search slows to 12%
Google is taking AI Mode ads to international markets while Search growth slows to 12%. Why your product feed, not your bid, decides who shows up.
Google is putting more ads inside its AI answers, and it is taking them outside the U.S. On Alphabet's Q3 call, chief business officer Philipp Schindler said Google is bringing ads in AI Mode to international markets for the first time, per TechCrunch. The timing is not an accident. Search revenue grew 12% this quarter. Google needs the AI answer box to sell.
What actually happened
The hard numbers come from Alphabet's Q3 2026 earnings release:
- Total revenue: $127.6 billion, up 25% year over year.
- Google Search & other: up 12%. TechCrunch notes that is down from 17% in Q2 and 19% in Q1.
- Queries: Google says year-over-year query growth is the highest in five years, including commercial queries.
- Google Cloud: up 103% to $30.7 billion.
From the call, as TechCrunch reports it:
- Google is "scaling high-quality ads within AI overviews in AI mode to more users and queries," and running multi-turn ads in AI Mode in the U.S.
- Click-through rates on sponsored product listings in AI Mode are already comparable to organic listings.
- AI Mode queries are three times longer than classic searches, and one in five globally uses voice, images or documents.
Google did not name the countries or a rollout date. We will not guess.
Why AI Mode ads matter for your business
More queries, slower revenue growth: Google is getting more searches and earning less on each one. The fix is to sell ad space inside the AI answer. That ad space is now coming to your market.
Long queries reward detailed product data. A three-times-longer query reads like "waterproof trail runner, wide toe box, under $140, ships to Tucson by Friday." The model matches that against your Merchant Center feed, not your homepage copy. Missing sizes, vague titles and no shipping data mean you do not get matched, paid or organic. Fill every attribute you have.
Measure AI Mode on its own. If sponsored listings click like organic ones, the line between them is thin. Split AI surfaces out in your reporting so you can see whether you are paying for clicks you used to get for free.
