Shopify knowledge base: AI agents only get facts you publish

Shopify's Fall '26 Edition moves the AI agent knowledge base to Sales channels > Agentic. Agents only get published facts. Review yours before Black Friday.

Shopify's Fall '26 Edition put an AI agent knowledge base in every merchant's admin, and it decides what ChatGPT and Claude say about your store. It lives under Sales channels > Agentic. Shopify drafts facts about your return window, shipping and gift options, and suggests updates. AI agents only get the facts that are published. With Black Friday on November 27, that review is a short job worth doing this week.

What actually happened

Shopify released the Fall '26 Edition on October 28. Among the agent features:

  • Knowledge base: merchants review and publish facts agents receive about their store, such as return windows, shipping destinations and gift services. Shopify drafts the facts and suggests updates. Agents only receive published facts.
  • Catalog eligibility: a new admin view shows whether your store qualifies for Shopify Catalog, the feed AI agents search, with links to fix problems.
  • Shopify connectors: merchants can manage products, inventory and orders from nine agents, including ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity.

Shopify's help center adds the migration details:

  • The standalone Shopify Knowledge Base app is deprecated on January 15, 2027 and can no longer be installed.
  • Stores with 1,000 or fewer facts get their overrides and custom facts moved and published automatically. Stores with more than 1,000 must re-add them by hand before the deadline.
  • The page shows how many questions come from AI agents and whether AI can answer them.
  • Shopify says the knowledge base improves answer accuracy but doesn't change how often your store appears in AI results.

Why it matters for your business

An agent asked "can I return this after 30 days?" will answer from this page, not your policy page. If the fact is wrong, the agent is wrong, and the shopper believes it.

Read every auto-drafted fact. Shopify writes the first draft from your storefront. If your theme says "free returns" in a banner and your policy says otherwise, the draft may pick the wrong one. Fix it before you publish.

Add holiday facts now. Extended return windows, last shipping dates and gift wrap are the questions shoppers ask in late November. Publish them before the traffic arrives, and take them down when the dates pass.

Check Catalog eligibility. If your store doesn't qualify, agents searching Shopify Catalog won't find your products at all. The admin view now tells you why.

Migrate if you used the old app. Over 1,000 facts? Don't wait for January.

Key takeaways

  • The AI agent knowledge base is now under Sales channels > Agentic in the Shopify admin
  • Shopify drafts store facts; AI agents only receive facts you publish
  • The old Knowledge Base app is deprecated January 15, 2027; stores over 1,000 facts must migrate by hand
  • It improves answer accuracy, not how often your store appears
  • Before Black Friday: review drafts, publish holiday return and shipping facts, check Catalog eligibility
